Charities and voluntary sector research

Mustard has supported charities and voluntary organisations across four key areas:

1. Evaluating Impact: We work with clients to understand the real impacts their products and services provide and clearly articulate the benefits to funders and donors.

2. Understanding and supporting charitable giving: We work with charities to understand the behaviours of donors and the motivators to give as well as testing the appeal of new events.

3. Organisational Support: We work closely with charities to understand the perceptions of their products, the ways in which they described and deliver services and the overall satisfaction rating from their customers.

4. Concept testing: We work closely with charities to develop and test new fundraising concepts – events, lotteries, promotional activity, etc.

Recent clients have included Asthma UK, Age UK, Mencap, Open University, Addaction, Arthritis Research UK and the Charities Trust.

Where we have made a difference:

  • Understanding donor / legacy behaviour and motivations – including triggers and barriers
  • Informing programme delivery to maximise efficiencies and outcomes
  • Developing and testing concepts for DM campaigns
  • Testing new lottery concepts for appeal and ‘brand fit’
  • Customer / donor satisfaction tracking
  • Segmentation: allowing for the development of distinct strategies to address the needs and preferences of different customers
