Mustard is delighted to reveal the Prolific North Top 50 Integrated Agency rankings for 2014.

These listings, in conjunction with Prolific North, have been in production since the end of September, and we have seen 39 of the leading 50 Northern agencies report growth since the inaugural rankings in 2013.

Given the raised and increasing profile of this definitive list, this year the list of “entrants” has increased with WRG (2^nd), Fresh (9^th), MB (11^th) and Media Agency Group (19^th) making their debut in the rankings. Further to this, several have broken into the Top 50 having just missed out last year, including Uber (32^nd), Dinosaur (37^th), True North (43^rd) and Parker Design (48^th).

McCanns Manchester remains the region’s number one, with a staff count of more than double that of any other agency in the region. Some notable “climbers” in the rankings include Brass (up 3 to 6^th), Elmwood (up 3 to 13^th), Hangar Seven (up 8 to 14^th), One Communications (up 9 to 22^nd) and Uniform (up 17 to 33^rd).

The positive financials posted by the majority of integrated agencies shows an industry in good health. Overall, the hubs of Manchester and Leeds continue to dominate – particularly in respects to the Top 40.

In the vast majority of cases agency representatives have provided the financial information themselves, which has been verified through online services such as Fame – Bureau van Dijk. The rankings are calculated through four key metrics – balance sheet / shareholder funds, turnover, turnover growth and headcount.
