Mustard has delivered qualitative and quantitative research programmes in the building and construction sector – in the UK and globally. In doing so we have engaged with a broad range of audiences, including staff (head office and site based), site managers, general builders, various specialist tradespeople (plasterers, dry-liners, plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, decorators), merchants, contractors, distributers, architects, interior designers, specifiers, apprentices, etc.

Building & construction research expertise

Customer satisfaction / CX

We have delivered customer satisfaction research for Brett Concreate since 2003, and ad hoc programmes for Lagan Group. We have also delivered customer experience programmes for Weber and EH Smith.

Brand research

We have delivered a pan-European market fastenings brand perception study for Stanley Bostich, and a strategic brand evaluation for a major UK builder’s merchants.

Proposition / Concept testing

We have tested various new technologies for Ideal Standard across European markets. Mustard has also tested various propositions and concepts for clients including Knauf Insulation and British Gypsum.

U&A (needs and behaviours)

We have recently helped a washroom accessory business better understand its European markets. We have helped a quartz worktop manufacturer understand the needs and behaviours of installers. We have undertaken various category evaluations on behalf of Builders Merchants and focused on the needs of specific audiences (e.g. young tradespeople – the next generation).

Innovation / NPD

Using the Popcorn method, we delivered research for Jewson and Lafarge tarmac to identify product innovation opportunities in bagged cement. Ethnographic research allowed us to understand the “journeys” bagged cement has during the course of construction projects. Workshops then identified 3 new product / service opportunities, which were tested via telephone surveys.

Communications development / testing

We have delivered research for Franke that assisted with both website and brochure design and have undertaken ad testing research for British Gypsum.
